Hello there!
As I stated earlier in my one of craft projects, that I’ll be bringing along a lot of yarn work. So (let the drum roll begin) here I am.
On our recent visit to India, I had been most impressed with our native hand loom techniques and works. In the flow of emotions I learned mat weaving off the internet and made a couple of coasters for our chai ritual. Upon realising that weaving a coaster size mat requires quite some work in terms of concentration and precision (although my work is much easier and pettier), my admiration and respect has only grown.
Here’s what I did.

These are all the supplies that I needed

Took a cardboard and drew marking at 1cm difference, then made cuts 1 cm deep at those markings

This way, on both sides. I hope you get the idea.

Start with the same yarn or take a different colour and begin weaving by taking the thread once over and once under the base threads that I already placed (in green)
To make it easier to, it is better to use threads of contrasting colour and have less strain on eyes!

It was coming along fine and I continued weaving…

Okay I’m done weaving here. You see the loop on the lower right end? I removed the rest from the cardboard simultaneously.
It takes some time and lots of patience but the joy in making this is worth it and learning a new craft is another feather in the cap. 😀
Hope you liked it. Do share your love/comments/suggestions and find me right here, soon with another lovely hand made project. 🙂
Always coming with a new idea. nice tea coaster What is next?
