Peter Pan Collar Necklace.

Hello and Welcome!

It’s been a season since Collar Necklace is ‘IN’. Although I made mine last season, it is only now that it has made its way from my DIY desk to this space! Reason being…my blog came into being during spring and I thought of saving the project for the fall/winter time…when wearing it is more stylish.

Summer being officially over, time to take autumn in style.

By the way, have you ever wondered why it is called Peter Pan Collar?? Well, I did and some google search got me this. It was designed by a Mr.John White Alexander and his wife in collaboration with Maude Adams for the production of Peter and Wendy. Although our little boy Peter did not wear it, it nevertheless became a fashion trend in USA and UK back then. It was traditionally made of lace and/or white cotton. Although a similar thing existed previous to Maude’s under the name Lord Fauntleroy Shirt collar, it was Peter Pan who gave it popularity and got the claim to fame!

Alright, coming back to my current project.

Remember my spare pair of jeans project? To refresh go here!

This one too, comes from the same good old pair of jeans. Keep scrolling down for the steps.

Draw a semi circle to get this and cut. Make two of them (semi-circles)

Rough structure of my peter pan collar necklace.

Here I’ve made two gathers using pearl head pins so that the collar sits aptly on the shoulder following the curve of neck. I’ve cut the excess material from here in a curve.

Sewed a pale pink lace along the outer edge

I know it doesn’t look much at this stage but it’s getting there 🙂

The other one too. Isn’t it already looking better?

Collar necklaces open two ways – either in front or can be hooked/tied at the back, on the nape of neck.
