Namaste, Bonjour, Hello my friends!

People will stare, make it worth the while’

                                                                         Harry Winston

I’m guessing he said that about jewelry. If there was/is an era of jewelry – it is now. Wearing ‘statement’ necklace or ‘statement’ rings or ‘statement’ bracelet has never reigned more than now (probably after fifties).  It is no longer reserved for ‘special occasions’ or party times. There is jewelry for all times that goes with all outfits. I, for one, love it, hoard it and try to wear it as much as possible. It instantly brightens up your outfit. And a really good thing is that jewelry has diversified like never before. I see so many options in terms of colours, materials, styles that I end up buying more than the need of the hour.

While we are here, lets make the most of it. Let’s make it ‘worth the while’. Now that I’m in major jewelry mood, I made one for myself out of some beads that were recently sent to me by my mum.

There were some really pretty shiny beads, mostly floral shapes, but all random colours so I decided on making a very feminine asymmetrical necklace.

To begin with, I had some pearl beads, imitation glass beads and a thin satin ribbon (all these things are very easily and inexpensively available at the local haberdasher or craft/hobby store).

Beads from India

I first arranged them in a way I wanted to see finally.

Arranged them in random order

Some beads have been layered over by me, to create a new type of bead. Then came in a satin ribbon that will form the base as well as the tie-ups.

Placed small pearl beads over the imitation glass beads

I sewed one bead to another using a thread that matches the skin tone.

Sewed through the tiny holes at the edge of beads

and sewing another bead in line…

Sewing bead by bead

Sewed a satin pink ribbon that was going well with almost all the beads, at the ends.

Almost done

After having done this I realized that it needs a backing for the beads. So I used a thinner ribbon to sew behind all the beads (can also be pasted with fabric glue). Although fabric glue can be used, I do sewing as I feel, its more fool-proof method. Also it retains flexibility whereas gluing makes it stiff.

The use of satin ribbon is easy and very practical as it lets you adjust the length of the necklace according to your comfort beside being trendy. 🙂

Here it is!

After completion, I could hardly wait to wear it. It being my first ever fairly successful attempt at jewelry making. So, here I am…

Spring in my heart and around my neck! :)

Well, it looks equally cool at the back as well, with the satin tie-ups! Take a look.

Cute bow at the back

Yeah, that is it!!! Very feminine, simple to make, elegant to wear. I paired it with white pearl studs and wore it on a mint green turtle neck sweater.

So when are you making a head turner for yourself??

I really do hope you liked it. Keep flowing your comments/queries/suggestions and love. I’m so waiting. ♥

Have a great weekend and stay crafty 😉
